Designed in 1975 by Björn Weckström for Lapponia, the Poronkello ("Reindeer Bell") necklace is a classic piece of Finnish modernist jewelry art. The organic, sculptural gold cage serves a distinct functional purpose: it securely cradles the deep purple amethyst within an openwork frame, protecting the natural gemstone from surface contact while allowing light to enter from multiple angles. Crafted in 14-karat yellow gold with a total weight of 2.6 grams, the pendant measures a compact 2 cm in length by 1 cm in width. Suspended from a slender 0.6 mm chain at a 38 cm length, the necklace sits high near the throat at a choker-style position, holding the sculptural pendant centered and flat against the skin during movement.
