Liisa Vitali Jewellery – Classics of Finnish Jewellery Art
Liisa Vitali was one of the leading names in Finnish jewellery art in the 1970s. Her career began with a competition win for a bracelet and ring design, and in the 1960s she still made her jewellery by hand on her own. In 1968 she began working with Westerback Oy, today's Kultakeskus, and as production grew, her jewellery became available to more and more people.
Over her career, Vitali designed around one hundred pieces of jewellery. She believed jewellery should bring joy rather than be serious art, and in her own words, jewellery was just "happy little pompoms". She drew inspiration from nature and country life on her Viluksela estate. That is why Liisa Vitali jewellery still feels fresh and approachable, and many designs are collectors' favorites.
Circles, Spheres and Lightness – How to Recognize Liisa Vitali Jewellery
Vitali's design language is recognizable by its circles and spheres, which she deliberately arranged asymmetrically. The composition gives the jewellery rhythm and joy. Another hallmark is lightness. Perforations and thin material made the pieces airy and feminine, a clear contrast to the heavy bronze jewellery of the early 1970s.
Authentic Liisa Vitali jewellery usually carries a maker's mark, a fineness mark and a date letter. The date letter also tells you the year the piece was made. Read more about interpreting hallmarks on our blog.
Liisa Vitali Necklace – An Easy Place to Start
A Liisa Vitali necklace is a great first purchase if you want to get to know the designer's work. A pendant shows off Vitali's signature shapes beautifully, and the lightweight piece sits gracefully around the neck.
The necklace suits both everyday wear and special occasions. Wear it on its own or layer it with fine chains. Many collections, such as Leppäkerttu (Ladybug) and Kevät (Spring), also include matching earrings.
Liisa Vitali Earrings – Light and Playful
Liisa Vitali earrings are comfortable to wear from morning to night, as thin material and perforations make them exceptionally light. Yet they are anything but unnoticeable, because the circles and spheres catch the light and move with every turn of the head.
Each collection has its own character: Ladybug is playful, Lace delicate and Spring romantic. Many earrings have a matching necklace, pendant or ring, so it is easy to build your own set over time.
Liisa Vitali Ladybug Earrings – A Classic That Brings Good Luck
Leppäkerttu (Ladybug) is one of Vitali's best-known collections. In Liisa Vitali Ladybug earrings, the small, round beetle captures the designer's world, where the joy of nature, soft shapes and a twinkle in the eye come together.
Besides earrings, the collection includes pendants, necklaces, brooches and rings, so you can build the set gradually. The ladybug is traditionally seen as a symbol of good luck, which makes these earrings a meaningful gift for birthdays, confirmations or graduations.
Liisa Vitali Lace Earrings – Perforated Elegance
In the Pitsi (Lace) collection, Vitali played with perforated circles of different sizes that together form a surface resembling fine lace fabric. Liisa Vitali Lace earrings are airy and delicate yet distinctly graphic, and light passes beautifully through the perforations.
Thanks to the perforations, you will hardly notice you are wearing them. They are perfect for special occasions but work just as well every day, for example with a knit sweater or a white shirt.
Liisa Vitali Spring Earrings – Nature's Flowers as Jewellery
In the Kevät (Spring) collection, the designer left geometry behind and turned to the floral forms of nature. The soft, organic lines of the Spring earrings set them apart from her more graphic work, yet they share the same lightness and joy as all of Vitali's jewellery. Their romantic look makes them a welcome gift, for example on Mother's Day or at a graduation.
Kultakeskus reintroduced the Spring collection in 2011, so Spring pieces exist both as original vintage items and as newer versions. The date letter tells you which one you have. Liisa Vitali Bracelets and Rings – Small Sculptures
Vitali's career began with a competition win for a bracelet and ring design, so these types of jewellery were close to her heart from the start. In a Liisa Vitali bracelet, repeating shapes create a beautiful rhythm on the wrist. The lightweight bracelet never feels heavy and can be worn alone or stacked with other bracelets.
Liisa Vitali rings are like small sculptures, where spheres and circles form three-dimensional compositions. If the size isn't right, ask us about resizing, which usually adds 2–5 business days to delivery. If you love sculptural design, we also recommend our Björn Weckström jewellery collection.
